Genetically modified cotton edible oil for Australia

Many Australian states have ambiguous or temporary restrictions on the cultivation of genetically modified crops. The public is currently paying great attention to the introduction of genetically modified cotton oil into the Australian market. Enricologist RICK ROUSH of the University of California, USA, said that genetically modified cottonseed oil is usually used mainly for fast food. However, many states believe that cottonseed oil should not be used as a vegetable oil for sale. He pointed out that it is totally nonsense to think that cotton is not a vegetable oil because 40% of the oil used in our cooking comes from cotton. Although people still have doubts about cottonseed oil, Australian cotton growers claim that genetically modified crops will benefit agriculture and the environment. It is estimated that 90% of cotton farms in New South Wales and Queensland are genetically modified cotton. GEOFF HEWITT, chairman of the Australian Cotton Growing Association, said that genetically modified crops have been grown in Australia for nearly seven years. But initially there was no large-scale planting. Now that we have discovered that the fund's improved crops have a stronger defense capability against diseases and pests, we have started mass production. He pointed out that this will be the general trend of global agricultural development in the future and not limited to cotton farming. At present, the Australian Office of Genetic Technology Management (OGTR) has issued a permit for the experimental cultivation of 34 genetic crops. Tests are underway for genetically modified crops in NSW, Tasmania, Western Australia, Queensland and Victoria. Genetically modified cotton, which has been grown in Australia since 1996, is currently the only genetic crop that has been licensed for commercial production.
