The autumn bluegrass management five attention

1. Fertilization on demand is essential for healthy bluegrass growth. After a period of dormancy during the summer, when the weather changes, bluegrass tends to grow rapidly, and second-generation buds as well as flower buds begin to emerge. However, it's important to note that without proper nutrient supply, bluegrass may not thrive. Flower buds will remain empty if the plant lacks nourishment. Therefore, it's crucial to fertilize bluegrass appropriately. I'm a purist at heart, but I don't necessarily rely on chemical fertilizers. Instead, I use mountain humus, which already contains the necessary nutrients for bluegrass growth. That being said, after more than a year of planting, I didn’t apply any additional fertilizer. Still, it’s important to avoid a one-size-fits-all approach—fertilization should be adjusted based on the specific conditions of each plant.

2. Implementing the "Autumn Retirement" policy is vital due to the reduced rainfall and lower humidity in autumn. In addition to maintaining the moisture level in the orchid pot, it's also essential to maintain adequate humidity in the orchid house. I often use water curtains, and some growers opt for humidifiers, water basins placed under the bluegrass shelves, or even spraying water on the floor. The choice depends on the specific environment where the orchids are kept.

3. Providing sufficient light is key, especially for late autumn buds. The temperature difference between day and night becomes more pronounced, so I allow the bluegrass to receive sunlight throughout the day, except for the midday sun. I believe that increasing light exposure during autumn helps promote stronger seedlings and improves the chances of better growth next season.

4. Ensuring good ventilation and preventing pests and diseases is critical. I regularly ventilate my orchid area during summer and autumn. I also use insecticides like Lancang to sterilize and prevent infestations. Taking preventive measures can help avoid many common issues that might otherwise harm the plants.

5. Proper repotting is necessary for mature orchid grass. I typically repot bluegrass every two years, replacing the old growing medium with fresh material. Some seedlings become too crowded in their pots, so it's important to carefully transplant them. When doing so, I make sure to protect any wounds on the roots. Each plant is unique, so I treat them individually and adjust my approach based on their specific needs.
