The demand and absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are different in the five growth stages of sugarcane. The general trend is that the amount of fertilizer is low in the early and late stages of growth, and the amount of fertilizer is large in the middle stage.

The sprouting period mainly relies on the nutrients stored by the seedlings themselves, and it is not necessary to suck fertilizer from the outside.

The period of seedling needs fertility, but the amount of fertilizer is small. The demand for nitrogen is larger, and potassium and phosphorus are the next. Therefore, the absorption of 3 elements in this period only accounts for less than 1% of the total amount of fertilizers in the whole period.

During the delivery period, sugar cane grows continuously, and the amount of fertilizer required gradually increases. Among them, the absorption of nitrogen fertilizer accounted for more than 6% of the total amount of the whole period, the absorption of potassium accounted for more than 5.5% of the total amount of the whole period, and the absorption of phosphorus was less than 3% of the total amount of the whole period.

During the extension period, the sugarcane enters the elongation stage. With the rapid proliferation of the shoot head, leaves, and root system, and the rapid elongation of the cane stem, the assimilation product gradually accelerates the formation and accumulation, and the absorption of the 3 elements takes up the entire period. More than 50% of total absorption. Among them, the absorption of nitrogen accounted for about 51% of the entire period, the absorption of phosphorus accounted for more than 73% of the whole period, and the absorption of potassium accounted for about 79% of the whole period. Therefore, the beginning of this period is the period of sugarcane nutrition efficiency, should be used as the key period of fertilization, production is called re-application of stem fertilizer.

During the mature period, the temperature gradually decreased and the weather was dry. Sugarcane grew slowly or stopped. At this stage, sugar cane needs to gradually reduce, but it needs to absorb considerable nutrients to meet the metabolic needs of the vegetative organs of various parts of the plant. In this period, the absorption of phosphorus and potassium accounted for about 20% of the total absorption. The absorption of nitrogen accounts for 30% to 40% of the entire period. Production requires that fertilization be stopped 2 months before the harvest of sugar cane to avoid waste of fertilizer and control of fertilizer to promote ripening.
