From November 2007 to March 2008, the biogas fermentation and microbial compound developed by the Biogas Research Institute under the Ministry of Agriculture's Microbiology Center underwent a five-month on-site demonstration. The results confirmed that the product significantly boosted gas production in rural biogas digesters, offering a practical solution to energy challenges in cold seasons.
The test involved 1,000 household biogas digesters in Danling County, Sichuan Province. It took place during the fall and winter months, with outdoor temperatures ranging from as low as -3°C to as high as 15°C. According to the data collected, after using the product, gas output increased by an average of 26.8% to 116%, depending on the specific conditions of each digester. Farmers reported noticeable improvements: "In the past, we could only burn methane for one meal a day in winter, just enough to boil a little water. But now, with your product, we can cook two or three meals daily, even use biogas every day."
The on-site tests demonstrated that the microbial inoculum contains highly active biogas-producing microorganisms along with various organic and inorganic growth stimulators essential for microbial metabolism. When added to the digesters, these microbes proliferate and become more active, greatly enhancing the overall gas yield. Additionally, the product helps farmers better utilize agricultural waste such as livestock manure and crop straw, increasing daily gas usage and addressing the common issue of low gas production in winter.
This innovation not only brings convenience to rural households but also allows them to benefit economically. It aligns with the government’s call for energy conservation and emission reduction, as outlined in Premier Wen Jiabao’s annual work report. By improving efficiency and reducing reliance on traditional fuels, this technology supports sustainable development and contributes to a cleaner, greener future for rural communities.
