Soybean Disaster Management

After heavy rainfall, waterlogging becomes a serious concern for soybean crops, especially during the seedling and maturity stages. It's crucial to drain standing water as soon as possible to prevent root damage and seedling death. If the field is flooded, timely drainage is essential to avoid long-term harm to the crop. When planting soybeans, it's important to ensure uniform emergence. Prolonged waterlogging can cause seedlings to rot or die due to poor drainage and broken ridges. To maintain healthy growth and avoid yield loss, regular field inspections should be conducted. If some areas have weak or missing plants, it’s recommended to transplant healthy seedlings from nearby fields. When transplanting, bring along soil and water to increase survival rates and help the new plants establish quickly. Weeding should be done carefully after light waterlogging. Remove surface weeds that are not severely damaged by the water to reduce competition for nutrients and sunlight. Early topdressing is important for promoting strong seedling growth. Apply 5–10 kg of urea per acre, ideally combined with the second cultivation pass. During the early flowering stage, foliar sprays of potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be used—30 grams per acre mixed in 40 kg of water. This can also be applied alongside aphid control measures to improve overall plant health. Disease and pest management is critical in soybean fields, especially under high humidity conditions. Common issues include soybean rust, aphids, and other pests. To prevent soybean rust, mix 3 grams of triadimefon with 50 kg of water per acre. For aphid control, use 100 grams of 10% imidacloprid in 30–50 kg of water per acre. For other pests, apply 2.4% deltamethrin at the recommended rate. If soybean plants grow too vigorously or become leggy, consider using chemical growth regulators like paclobutrazol to manage excessive growth and promote better plant structure. By following these practices, farmers can effectively manage waterlogging, support healthy plant development, and protect their soybean crops from diseases and pests, ultimately improving yield and quality.
