Biogas tank construction and maintenance

Biogas pool construction and maintenance is a crucial process that requires careful planning based on the type, quantity, and gas production rate of the raw materials used for fermentation. The effective volume of the digester—essentially the usable space inside the main tank—should be determined by considering factors like the number of people in the household, their daily gas consumption, and the availability of organic waste such as animal manure or plant residues. It's also important to take into account how much fertilizer will be produced and how it will be utilized. In rural areas, the average daily gas consumption per person is around 0.3 to 0.4 cubic meters. For a family of four, this typically amounts to about 1.5 cubic meters per day for cooking and lighting. Using high-quality biogas lamps and stoves can significantly reduce gas usage. According to scientific research and local experience, one cubic meter of digester capacity is generally required for the daily fermentation of approximately 5 kilograms of pig feces. The size of the biogas pool should then be adjusted based on local climate conditions and the availability of raw materials. In northern regions with cold winters, gas production tends to be lower compared to southern areas. Therefore, typical household biogas pools are usually around 8 to 10 cubic meters in the north, while in the south, they are often about 6 cubic meters. When properly maintained, these digesters can provide enough biogas for cooking, boiling water, and lighting during spring, summer, and autumn. Even in winter, when temperatures drop and gas production decreases, using biogas fermentation enhancers can help maintain efficient digestion. Some people mistakenly believe that the larger the biogas pool, the more gas it produces. However, this is an oversimplified view. Experience has shown that simply building a large pool without proper management and sufficient feedstock will not lead to better results. A well-managed small digester can often produce more gas than a large one that lacks regular feeding and maintenance. On the other hand, a pool that is too small may not be practical either, as it can limit the system’s ability to store and process organic material effectively. Additionally, using appropriate biogas fermentation aids and microbial cultures can greatly enhance the efficiency of the digestion process, leading to higher gas yields and improved performance over time. Proper management, combined with the right inputs, is essential for maximizing the benefits of a biogas system.
