Feeding silage

Silage is a kind of succulent feed with special aromatic odor and rich nutrients, which is produced by short-cutting fresh green fodder into sealed silage facilities (cellars, towers, bags, etc.) and microbial fermentation. Because it has a wide range of sources of feed ingredients, high nutritional value, simple production process, and high economic benefits, it is widely used in animal husbandry production in various countries around the world. However, if the feeding is not scientific, it is difficult to receive good results, and even cause poisoning or other side effects.

When domestically fed silage is first fed, some of the animals will refuse to eat because of unaccustomed habits, and this will require domestication. Taming methods: First, when the animals fasting, feed a small amount of silage first, then feed other feeds. The second is to mix a small amount of silage with concentrate before feeding and then feed the other. The third is to put the silage on the bottom of the feeding trough and put the feed normally fed on the upper layer so that the livestock gradually adapt to its smell. The fourth is to feed the silage and other commonly used fodder after mixing. On the basis of feeding, the amount of silage can be gradually increased from as little as possible.

Quantitative quality good silage can be fed more, otherwise it should be fed less. Finely silted silage is unfavorable for ruminating cattle and sheep, and should be fed together with high quality hay.

Pay attention to the feeding hygiene Before each feeding, clean the inside of the tank to avoid contamination of the new feed by the old feed and affect the appetite of the livestock. Dairy cows should be fed silage after milking. Do not store silage in milking rooms to prevent them from affecting the smell of fresh milk.

Feeding silage on livestock breeds can increase the milk production of dairy animals, and dairy cows and dairy sheep can feed more. Because silage contains a large amount of organic acids, it has a laxative effect, so it is necessary to feed less or not to the livestock suffering from gastroenteritis and the maternity animals. Silage acidity affects the quality of breeding stock semen. Therefore, it is advisable for the broiler to feed less. The reference daily feed rate for all kinds of livestock silage: 15-20 kg per cow, the maximum amount can reach 60 kg, the last month of pregnancy should not exceed 12 kg of cows, stop feeding silage 10-12 days before delivery , Add silage to the diet 10-15 days after childbirth. Beef and cattle are fed 10-17 kilograms a day. Bulls feed 1-1.5 kg/kg body weight on a daily basis. Sheep can effectively use silage. The daily feeding amount is as follows: 4-5 kg for sheep and 400-600 g for lambs. Other livestock should master the right amount.

Do not feed frozen feed to prevent silage from hanging or freezing. If it is frozen, it should be opened in a warm house and then fed. The silage is fed on an empty stomach and then hay and concentrate feeds are taken to shorten the feeding time of the silage.

Although a reasonable mix of silage is a good quality feed, it must be properly matched with the nutritional needs of livestock and concentrate or other feeds. Silages treated with inorganic acid additives will affect the metabolism of minerals in animals and produce a negative balance of calcium. Therefore, calcium should be added when feeding such silage.
