Germinating potato and its stems and leaves do not feed pigs

The green stems, leaves, and especially the germs contain solanine, which has the highest content in the germ of the potato and in the epidermis that is exposed to sunlight. Solanine can irritate inflammation of the intestine mucosa and, after entering the bloodstream, can damage the medulla and spinal cord, causing the pig to develop toxic paralysis.

Therefore, it is forbidden to use potato germ for pig feed in production. Germinated, partially rotted or green-skinned potatoes should first be cut with germs, green skin and rotted parts, washed and cooked and then fed.

Fresh corn seedlings, sorghum seedlings, and cyanogenic glucosides, after being piled, moldy, or frosted, are hydrolyzed to release toxic hydrocyanic acid under the action of plant-specific enzymes. After the sorghum and corn harvest, the regenerated seedlings are more harmful after frost.
