Preventing summer cabbage virus disease in time

Paeonia virus disease typically affects young plants, causing yellowing of the central leaves, which fail to curl properly. In mature plants, the leaves become brittle, shrink, and the heart does not develop correctly. Gray-brown spots often appear on the leaves, which significantly reduces yield and market value. This disease is more prevalent under high temperature and drought conditions, especially when night temperatures are elevated, as these factors weaken the plants and make them more susceptible to infection. Proper watering is essential for preventing the disease. Seedlings should be watered according to the principle of "three waters for seedlings," meaning a small amount of water initially, followed by a moderate amount after 2–3 days. Watering should be done in the evening for best results, helping to reduce evaporation and ensure deeper soil moisture. Consistent and timely irrigation helps maintain plant health and resilience. To strengthen the seedlings, it's recommended to apply sufficient base fertilizer at planting. A mix of 5 kg of biological potassium fertilizer, 50 kg of potassium sulfate compound fertilizer, and 15–20 kg of ammonium bicarbonate can provide the necessary nutrients for strong growth. Balanced nutrition plays a key role in improving plant resistance to diseases. Early control of pests like aphids is also crucial. Any infestations should be addressed immediately through spraying. Adding 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate during spraying can enhance the effectiveness of the treatment and boost the plants' natural defenses against viruses and other diseases. If infected plants are detected, they should be removed immediately to prevent the spread of the virus. Spraying with a solution of virus inhibitors or plant disease protectants at a dilution of 500–800 times can help both prevent and treat the infection. Regular monitoring and prompt action are essential for effective disease management in paeonia crops.
