Paeonia virus disease typically affects young seedlings, causing yellowing of the central leaves and failure to form a tight ball. In mature plants, infected leaves become brittle, shrink, and fail to develop properly, with gray-brown lesions appearing on the foliage, which significantly reduces yield and market value.
High temperatures and drought, especially when nighttime temperatures remain elevated, create favorable conditions for the virus to spread. These environmental factors weaken the plants, making them more susceptible to infection.
Proper watering is essential. Follow the principle of "three waterings for seedling establishment, no watering during rooting, and regular watering after every 2–3 days." It's best to water in the evening to reduce evaporation and ensure moisture reaches the roots effectively.
To strengthen the seedlings, apply a sufficient base fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. A recommended mix includes 5 kg of biological potassium fertilizer, 50 kg of potassium sulfate compound fertilizer, and 15–20 kg of ammonium bicarbonate. This provides balanced nutrition and enhances plant resilience.
Early control of pests such as aphids is crucial, as they can transmit the virus. If locusts or other pests are detected, spray immediately. Adding 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate to the spray solution can improve its effectiveness and boost the plant’s resistance to diseases.
If symptoms of the virus are observed, remove the affected plants promptly to prevent further spread. Apply a virus inhibitor at a dilution of 500 times or use plant disease protection agent at 500–800 times dilution for both prevention and treatment. Regular monitoring and quick action are key to managing this disease effectively.
