How to spinach in early autumn

In early autumn, temperatures remain high, often referred to as the "autumn tiger." When planting spinach during this period, it's essential to choose heat-resistant and quick-germinating varieties. These types of seeds are more likely to sprout successfully in the warm conditions. Before sowing, soak the spinach seeds for 12 to 24 hours. After soaking, place them in a shaded area inside the room for germination. Make sure to turn the seeds regularly and keep them moist throughout the process. Within 5 to 6 days, the seeds should be ready to plant. Sowing should begin around mid-August in early autumn, with harvest typically taking place in mid to late September. During the hot period, it’s recommended to increase the seed rate to 10–15 kg per acre. When sowing, make sure to plant the seeds before watering to ensure proper soil contact and moisture retention. For sowing and care, if you're planting spinach before the "White Dew" (a traditional Chinese solar term), it's best to cover the seeds with straw or mulch after sowing. This helps to keep the soil cool and moist, promoting even germination. Before the seeds emerge, water them once in the morning and once in the evening. Once the plants start to come up, remove the covering and water them based on soil moisture levels. During the growth phase, apply a small amount of diluted organic fertilizer to support healthy development.
