Aquaculture: new ingredients solve the sector’s challenges

Wilson Boscolo, a consultant in the animal nutrition sector for multiple companies, recently joined BRFi Talks as a guest speaker. During the session, he delved into topics such as functional aquafeed, digestibility, alternative ingredients, functionality, shrimp mortality, and Enzymatic Feather Hydrolysate. Additionally, he shared insights about BRF Ingredients’ latest releases at FENAGRA 2024. As an animal scientist who graduated in 1997 from the Universidade Estadual de Maringá, Wilson holds a master’s and Ph.D. in Animal Production from the same university and completed his post-doctorate in Animal Science at Unesp-Botucatu. Since 2001, he has been teaching at the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná, where he instructs students in Fisheries and Aquaculture Engineering and the Postgraduate Program in Fisheries Resources and Fisheries Engineering. If you missed the interview, here’s a recap of some key points: **On aquaculture feed trends in 2024:** The emphasis continues to be on creating more efficient and nutrient-rich diets for farmed species. Wilson emphasized the need for diets tailored to regional challenges and aligned with specific aquaculture systems to ensure sustainability. **Alternative ingredients and nutritional additives:** With dwindling supplies of high-quality fishmeal, there’s a rising demand for essential supplements like industrial amino acids and vitamins. Functional ingredients are also gaining traction, aiming to boost animal performance, immunity, and overall health. **Food efficiency strategies:** Improving feed efficiency is crucial for reducing waste and enhancing nutritional outcomes in aquaculture. Ingredients that are highly digestible play a vital role in minimizing effluent generation and supporting higher stocking densities. **Bioactio Efficiency:** One of BRF Ingredients’ highlights at FENAGRA 2024, Bioactio Efficiency, stands out due to its renewable nature and provision of easily absorbable amino acids. Produced through controlled enzymatic hydrolysis, this product boasts high concentrations of bioactive peptides. These peptides not only enhance nutrition but also fortify organisms against stressors, leading to improved survival rates and better zootechnical metrics. Trials conducted with the Federal University of Santa Catarina demonstrated a 50% reduction in shrimp mortality under Vibrio parahaemolyticus stress when using Bioactio Efficiency. **The importance of FENAGRA 2024:** FENAGRA serves as a pivotal platform for professionals in Latin American aquaculture, offering updates on cutting-edge technologies and fostering connections between suppliers and producers. Wilson expressed optimism about this year’s event, predicting robust discussions and meaningful collaborations among attendees. For those interested in learning more about these innovations, BRF Ingredients invites you to explore their offerings at FENAGRA 2024, happening on June 5th and 6th.

Imported Premium Flexibilizer

Toughening agent refers to the material that can increase the flexibility of adhesive film. Some thermosetting resin adhesives, such as epoxy resin, phenolic resin and unsaturated polyester resin adhesives, have low elongation and high brittleness after curing. When the adhesive parts bear external forces, they are easy to crack and rapidly expand, resulting in cracking of the adhesive layer, fatigue resistance, and can not be used for structural bonding. Therefore, we must try to reduce brittleness, increase toughness, improve the bearing strength. Any material that can reduce brittleness and increase toughness without affecting other major properties of the adhesive is a toughening agent. It can be divided into rubber toughening agent and thermoplastic elastomer toughening agent.
