Hatching of fish eggs and cultivation of fry (I)

In the fertilized egg of a goldfish, the egg membrane swells quickly, and the egg turns slightly yellow and becomes more transparent, marking the beginning of embryonic development. If the eggs become cloudy and eventually turn white, this is a sign that they are unfertilized and will not hatch. The hatching process is greatly influenced by environmental conditions, particularly water temperature. The incubation temperature for goldfish eggs should be maintained between 18°C and 30°C, with the ideal range being 20°C to 22°C. At this temperature, fertilized eggs typically hatch within 3 to 4 days. However, if the water is too warm or too cold, it can disrupt the development of the embryo, leading to deformities and reduced survival rates. Sudden temperature fluctuations during incubation can also be very harmful, causing many embryos to die. In addition to proper temperature, maintaining high levels of dissolved oxygen and an appropriate pH level in the water is crucial for healthy embryo development. These factors help ensure that the developing fish receive enough oxygen and that the environment remains stable and supportive. When caring for fertilized eggs, it's important to transfer them to the hatching tank within 1 to 2 hours after spawning, making sure the temperature difference between the original and new water is no more than 2°C. The hatching pool should have clean, well-oxygenated water free from harmful organisms. Avoid disturbing the fish nest during incubation and keep the eggs fully submerged. Once the yolk sac has been absorbed and all fry are capable of swimming on their own, they can be moved out of the nest. This usually happens 1 to 2 days after the yolk sac disappears. Throughout the entire incubation period, avoid changing or agitating the water, as this can negatively impact the embryos and lead to developmental issues or death. Consistency in the environment is key to successful hatching.
