Eating fish can help you reduce the risk of smoking

The nutritional value of fish is high, and different fish will contain different nutrients. Eating more fish can be good for your health.

A recent study in a hospital in Dublin, Ireland, showed that eating fish can reduce some of the damage caused by smoking.

The study found that the amino acids contained in fish can stop arteriosclerosis and reduce the chance that people who smoke will die from heart attacks and strokes. In general, the cause of heart disease and stroke is atherosclerosis. One of the early symptoms of atherosclerosis is endothelial dysfunction (ie, inability of the artery to dilate). The main cause of endothelial dysfunction is smoking.

The investigators examined the arteries of smokers and non-smokers with a sphygmomanometer and ultrasound scan. The results showed that the arteries of the former could not be expanded and the latter had no problem. However, if the tester took 1.5 grams of "ornitic acid", which is the amino acid contained in a fish meal, their arterial expansion ability will be greatly improved.

The researchers said that this finding proves that eating more fish can help treat endothelial dysfunction. However, fish cannot be used as an “antidote” for smoking. The best way to avoid smoking damage is to stop smoking. Some experts pointed out that smoking can cause cancer, respiratory diseases and more than 50 kinds of diseases, and endothelial dysfunction is only one of them.
