Before cold air or smoke moves into the greenhouse, it's advisable to light controlled fires around the structure to trap heat and prevent it from escaping into the atmosphere. However, avoid using firewood inside the greenhouse for heating, as burning stalks can release harmful substances that may damage crops. Instead, consider safer alternatives like using non-toxic materials for smoke generation.
To raise the internal temperature of the greenhouse, you can cover the surrounding area with straw or corn stalks. This simple measure can increase the temperature by up to 1–2°C. Additionally, adding a layer of plastic film over the existing structure not only prevents snow from entering but also helps maintain warmth inside, keeping the temperature between 2–3°C. Regularly cleaning and scrubbing the greenhouse film improves light penetration, which in turn enhances heat absorption and further raises the temperature.
Another effective strategy is to introduce dark-colored materials into the greenhouse. For example, when transplanting or starting seedlings, sprinkle fine bituminous coal on the ground to darken the soil surface. Alternatively, mix carbon black with water and spray it over the floor, turning the entire greenhouse into a natural solar heater. This method can increase the temperature by 2–3°C, providing better growing conditions for plants.
Using a double-layered cover film beneath the drop-proof film is another technique. Place a second layer of film over the support wires, creating an insulating air gap between the layers. This air pocket significantly improves thermal insulation, helping to maintain higher temperatures inside the greenhouse.
Lastly, hanging a reflective curtain on the back wall of the greenhouse can help retain heat. Use a plastic film coated with a metallic layer or aluminum foil, and hang it every 2–3 meters. This reduces heat loss and increases the overall temperature by 2–3°C. It also improves lighting conditions inside the greenhouse, which is essential for healthy vegetable growth and development.
